AMCA

amcaAMCA is the affiliated with the International Association for Computational Mechanics. The first event organized by AMCA was ENIEF’83 First National Meeting of Researchers and Users of the Finite Element Method (Primer Encuentro Nacional de Investigadores y Usuarios del Método de Elementos Finitos). Held at San Carlos de Bariloche, in July 1983, together with the Second National Course on the Finite Element Method. Near 50 people assited to this meeting and Dr. Richard Gallagher, from University of Arizona, was the special invited speaker.

This first event was the seed for the following sequence of congresses. Also it served as the glue for people and groups in the region working in Computational Mechanics. This activity led to the creation of AMCA two years later. From then, AMCA has sponsored one regional congress per year either of the ENIEF series (years 1984, 1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1992, 1995, 1997, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2004, 2006, 2007, 2008, and 2009) or Argentinian Congress on Computational Mechanics MECOM (1985, 1988, 1991, 1994, 1996, 1999, 2002, and 2005). Also, AMCA has sponsored the organization of two large international congresses, namely PACAM IV in 1995 and WCCM IV in 1998, both held in the city of Buenos Aires. The proceedings of these congresses has been compiled in the Mecánica Computacional book series edited by AMCA since 1985. Since 2005 this series is available online and free of charge at AMCA’s web page, having currently more than 2700 articles.
